About this listen
Having lived his life suspected of being a serial killer, Carl Louis Feldman begins his journey into old age at a nursing home in Texas. Though he was never charged with any crimes, the staff aren’t sorry to see him go when his estranged daughter arrives to take her father on what could be his last road trip.
When Carl protests that this is not his daughter at all, the nurses are all too ready to excuse it as a product of his steadily deteriorating mind. But were those old suspicions about him true? And if he is an honest man, who has just driven him away from safety?

An Enjoyable Book

I enjoyed the narration, the strong Southern accent and exuberance felt like it fitted Grace the young lead very well. That local flavour helped me get into her mind which was an interesting place to be as the story developed. It wasn't perfect though because while Antonia Campbell-Hughes uses some good changes of pace her default setting was a little more rapid than the norm. You might wish to check the audio sample prior to purchase on this one to be sure you are okay with the accent and the pace of the narration.
After the rather excellent setup I found the story and the two main characters very engaging. The concept of paper ghosts is particularly appropriate and sums the book up vividly. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who likes a slow-burning mystery with a bit of action and suspense thrown in to the mix.
