About this listen

For the first time in four billion years of life on Earth, we are preparing to step out among the stars, not just as lone astronauts or billionaire tech bros, but as a civilization.

Dr Adriana Marais has dedicated her life to preparing form extraplanetary settlement, and here, she considers not just the scientific concerns of a multiplanetary existence (like terraforming and life-support systems), but also the ethical responsibilities we must carry with us as we explore new frontiers.

In this extraordinary era of rapid technological development, Marais explores the fundamental questions at the heart of human endeavour: How did we get here—and where are we going next?

Don't get me wrong, it's good. It's just... not quite what I expected. And it's surprising how important it is for a book to meet expectations.
I thought it would be more about the history of the space programme, and what we can expect next. It does touch on those things, but it jumps about a bit too much. One minute it's a description of the solar system, next it's about the origin of life, then it's about a dream the author had, with a passing reference to when she made coffee for the Yakuza, a fictional account of a future Mars colony, a criticism of how we use Earth's resources, a discussion about fusion power, and a bunch of other stuff.
I think I might enjoy it more on a reread or relisten, but as it stands it feels like too many only-slightly-related subjects packed into one book.

The evil that will never die and the largest evil to ever occur on earth; communism. This book is entirely written through a lens of communism, whether historical, scientific or economic vignettes are at best myopic and always misleading. A communist is not impartial and in completely undermines the book.
This book is not about space exploration but how communism should be inflicted on the world.

Communism disguised as science
