First published in 1986, Open Mind, Open Heart remains one of the best introductions to contemplative prayer. Father Thomas Keating discusses the history of contemplative prayer in the Christian tradition, and introduces the listener to the practice of centering prayer as a spiritual discipline. Each chapter concludes with questions and answers that provide useful information in his signature informal and straightforward style. Open Mind, Open Heart is an excellent resource for anyone starting a centering prayer practice. This brand new audio edition is beautifully narrated by Joel Richards, a listener favorite.

Very useful
A very useful "handbook" for all who practice centering prayer. You don't learn to pray by listening to or reading a book, you need to practice - but since this prayer is so simple, it is easy to begin wondering if you're doing it right or just want gain a deeper understanding of what's going on. This can make it harder to let go during prayer, which is why I came to this book. It is very simple and straightforward, practical and concrete, yet it really covers a lot of aspects and also provides some useful insights into the spiritual depths of our being. It is very obvious that Thomas Keating speaks from experience. The knowledge he provides is gained through a long life of intimacy with God - deep, yet simple and told in a manner that gives everyone with the desire a chance to deepen their own relationship with the divine.
