About this listen

In 2001, martial arts-trained biker Glen Heggstad began a journey from California to the tip of South America on his motorcycle and made it as far as Colombia, where he was kidnapped by local rebels and held captive. Undeterred by more than a month of traumatic incarceration, the 'Striking Viking' finished his trip after being released. Three years later he set out into the world on his bike again, this time searching for truth on his own terms in a world that had become strangled by a climate of fear.

Starting his trip in Japan, he traveled through Siberia, Mongolia, Europe, the Middle East, South East Asia, and Africa, stopping in more than 30 countries to deliver his message of the real United States, as he knew it. Unique stories and gritty adventure fill this quest for new sights and insights amongst extreme temperatures, knee-deep mud, bureaucratic roadblocks, health problems, and loneliness.

Hadn't heard of the author before or of his escapade in Columbia, but went straight to this story as a recommendation my account by Audible. I don't quite follow the disparaging remarks made by some reviewers, this is an enjoyable account of someone adventuring around the world on a motorcycle. Throw in some danger, breakdowns in difficult and remote terrain, friendly and welcoming locals who are themselves very poor but always seem to want to help travellers, stepping into the unknown, what more do you want? Found that the narration was delivered at the right pace, yes enjoyed this. Thanks Glen Heggstad!

Better than Investment Biker and Jupiter’s Travels. way better than Long Way Round/Down. Eloquent and fascinating.

The best motorcycle travelogue yet.

Glen ventures into places that many would skip around because they're difficult. The people and places are vividly described and Glen has a way of reaching into the people he meets and is justly rewarded for his efforts. I have read a lot of travel books and rate this as one of the best.

Outstanding insight into the people and places

Really enjoyed this book. I love travel books but unlike Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman's similar adventure, this is one man, doing it alone with no support crew. So much more respect for a man who can succeed on limited resources and his own wits.

Superb!

Each country he passes through but in the end what is life about? Make up your mind.

Eye opener. Everyone should listen to this.

I found the book to be well thought out, well narrated and interesting a trip I would love to copy.

If only other Americans would follow this path.

Very inspiring, breaking down barriers between people and questioning everything we've been told about the world.

As a motorcykleist I was drawn to this book, but its so much more than a bike book. So good to feel the pleasure and pain of travelling, but with the knowledge that 99% of people mean other people we'll. no matter where they are from.

Superb !!!

An excellent look into travelling the world.
