I was totally gripped by this from the beginning. But at the end it’s as though she’s run out of ideas so it has to stop. It’s a long story possibly too long, but it deserved a much better ending!

Nothing like as interesting as other Barbara Erskine novels. Quite boring and not engaging.

The narration is awful, read out as though reading a book to a bunch of disinterested 10 year olds.

As ever Barbara Erskine pushes the relationships of perception. Who are we? Where are we in dreams, meditation.....?
And for me, it's great to have an author that can build a story around these questions.
However, towards the end I was finding that I wanted a shorter story.

I like Barbara Erskine as an author and have read a few of her books and this is a great idea. But it went on way too long, too many people getting killed in car accidents etc ,, it just isnt very realistic so towards the last third of the book I just finished it out a sense of duty really. As I said great subject but a generation too long.

I absolutely loved On the Edge of Darkness by Barbara Erskine. From the very start, the story had me hooked, blending history, mystery, and the supernatural in such an immersive way. The shifting timelines between modern-day and the sixth century kept me completely engaged, and I found myself eager to know what would happen next. The connection between Adam and Brid was intense and haunting, making the story even more gripping.

The audiobook itself was a fantastic experience. Elaine Claxton’s narration was brilliant—her voice suited the atmosphere perfectly, bringing the characters to life and adding to the tension and drama. I never once lost interest, and the story stayed with me long after I’d finished listening. If you enjoy historical fiction with a supernatural twist, I’d highly recommend this audiobook!

Let me start with congratulating the reader, her performance was amazing and can’t fault her at all.
However, even though I love Barbara Erskine’s books, this was so bad. The story was extremely farfetched (much more than any other of her books), the main character was not likeable at any stage, the ending absolutely horrible as there is basically no ending, it was just bad. Wouldn’t waste so many hours on it if I knew ahead :(

I love Barbara Erskins books. This one though I struggled with at times. it's very, very long. I found it a bit depressing to listen to, and was glad to get to the end. Its a great story, but it lost me at times.

I felt it was a bit dragged out. Iv was also frustrated by the constant stupidity of all involved. Even with the evidence of their own eyes, they still insisted on disbelief. Also deliberately putting themselves in danger unnecessarily.
But, it did keep me enthralled right to the end.
