An unusual story and lots to keep you interested along the way. 4 stars as there were a couple of occasions when it felt a bit laborious and the ending came rather suddenly and so I didn’t feel as satisfied as I might at the end. Obviously done that way to make you want to buy the next book in the series.
Listened with my 10 year old son and it was another book that appealed to us both which was great. Definitely worth a listen.

Being a geek, a bit of a gamer and a programmer, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. And thankfully, I don't think you have to be any of those things to enjoy it too. It's not all that techie, but the main character is a bit of a geek/nerd, and I suppose I can probably relate.

It is light hearted, fun and an easy listen. Luke Daniels does a great job with the narration as well. I'm just writing this while the 2nd book downloads.

Yes, this was a highly imaginative story that was fun for me as well as the children: but it was Luke Daniels who made this a truly great story! His accents, his sense of humour, his timing were all spot on. So much so I'm going to look for other stories he had written!

The book is light hearted and good fun. I was looking for something a bit more cheerful and light for my driving commutes after 2 Stephen King books in a row. This surely does the job! I could enjoy the story whilst driving through the country roads of South West England. The writing style seems to be aimed at teenagers, but the characters are rich enough to make the story very joyful! Looking forward for the next book!

As the first book in the series there was a lot of 'setting the scene' and laying down the background to this book. At times this could get a bit much but the story usually moved on again just as I was thinking 'enough already'. There are a lot of subtle references to gaming and sci-fi/fantasy that fans of the genres will appreciate. It wasn't laugh out loud but a few sections made me smile. It did enough to make me want to see what happens to Martin and crew in the rest of the series.

I enjoyed the humour. The narrator is spectacularly good - really knows how to deliver a funny line in an good series of voices. He even manages not to be annoying when doing an English accent (like mine) which is rarely achieved by an American. The book itself is pretty amusing, but lightweight. Not genius funny, like Douglas Adams, but gives you a few genuine laughs and has a wry sense of humour. The plot is pretty basic. Oversimple, even. It sometimes feels like he's forgotten to write a plot, because he's so in love with his world. The next two books are more plotty.

I really liked this story, the narrator done a good job of distinguishing voices between the characters so you always knew who was speaking.

The flow and pace was ok and had some good humour but the ending was a little predictable but also entertaining.

Any computer nerd, fantasy film fan (lord of the rings etc), rpg game fan or someone wishing to explore a matrix style subtext story with comical rhythms will certainly enjoy this.
