About this listen
No rest for the wicked...or the cursed.
SLATE
I didn't mean to steal the Bloodstone from the De Morel's crypt. Scratch that, I did mean to steal it. Until I realized it was a curse-magnet that only comes off if I, along with a jolly trio, successfully defeat four curses. If any of us fail, I'm dead. I've never been a glass half-empty sort of person, but my glass looks in dire need of a refill right about now. The only highlight of this wicked treasure hunt: feisty, entitled Cadence de Morel.
CADENCE I was raised on tales of magic, in a small town reputed to be the birthplace of French witchcraft. Did I believe all the stories I heard? Absolutely not. I mean, if magic existed, Maman wouldn't have died, and Papa wouldn't be stuck in a wheelchair, right? Wrong. The night Slate Ardoin waltzes into my life, wearing a ring he stole from my mother's grave, I call him a monster. But then I meet real ones, and Slate, well...he becomes something else to me. Something frustrating to live with, but impossible to live without. Something I will fight for, no matter the cost.
Warning: profuse cursing (and not just the magical kind).
©2021 Olivia Wildenstein and Katie Hayoz (P)2023 WildStone PublishingLoved everything about this book the story is great and keeps you wanting to listen for just one more chapter and then the book was finished before I knew it and it was after 2am. The characters are great and Slate it the perfect MMC with his sarcasm and the hate he holds for the people that knew who he really was and still let him suffer. This is my first book from both Olivia and Katie and I’ve just bought another book from Olivia as I loved this so much. Thomas Locklear is the best narrator and he really does great in this book and Holly Fielding is a narrator I’m going to search out more books from .

The narrators did a great job with the voices of each of their characters, though it took me a bit to get used to either their voicing the other MC or the tone they used for some characters (like how soft de Morel's voice was in Slate's chapters). Still, once I got past that, they pulled me in for most of the story.
Overall, this is a magical Urban Fantasy that I'd recommend to fans of the authors, and/or of the upper YA, lower NA genres, due to content. Unfortunately, that's the same reason why I don't think I'll be following any more of this series or authors. ~ 3 stars
Content:
Language: the blurb says "profuse cursing, not of the magical kind", and believe me, authors know best. If you're not sure about this being the right fit, you could always listen to the sample (though there's only a sprinkle in comparison to what the rest of the book will be) or check the look inside feature on Amazon. Anyways, there's a lot of it, and it's both in English and French (from four-letter words to really crass comments/thoughts).
Sex: it never happens between the MCs. However, there's plenty of references to his sexual past or his sexual thoughts towards the other MC, as well as physical descriptions of their bodies responding to passionate kisses. Thus, it's not difficult to see it'll end up happening in the future.
