About this listen

At least one battalion of flame-throwers is swinging around like a pack of crazy wild boars. Long, flaming red tongues of fire are hissing from the towers, charring every living thing. From the GPU-prison stream shoals of red prisoners. A barrage of incredible dimensions is hammering down behind the Germans. It seems like the Russians have guessed that they are pondering an escape and want to stop it with an impenetrable wall of fire, spreading as far as the eye can see.

Sven Hassel was sent to a penal battalion as a private in the German forces. Intensely and with brutal realism, he portrays the cruelty of the war, the Nazi crimes and the crude and cynical humor of the soldiers. With more than 50 million sold copies, this is one of the world's best selling war novels.

SVEN HASSEL IS AN OUTSTANDING STORYTELLER.
-- DE TELEGRAAF, HOLLAND

I read this book years ago when it first came out and it was the funniest thing that I had ever read (I was 15). I am glad to say that it has lost nothing with time, remaining a good counterpoint to the savagery of war.
The only thing that I can't understand is why does Tiny have a Bristol accent?

Funny and sad.

Another classic from Sven hassel

I read Sven Hassle books as a kid, and they are meant to be a bit dark and sinister, the narrator sounds like he is reading Dora the explorer to an eight year old, and Tiny has a West Country accent, despite being from Hamburg. I’m going to have to return this as it is unlistenable.

Dreadful

Truly awful performance. Maybe if the narrator could pronounce German words, it would have been tolerable
