About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Over 1 million Discworld audiobooks sold – discover the extraordinary universe of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld like never before.

'Don't put your trust in revolutions. They always come round again. That's why they're called revolutions. People die, and nothing changes.'

For a policeman, there can be few things worse than a serial killer loose in your city. Except, perhaps, a serial killer who targets coppers, and a city on the brink of bloody revolution.

For Commander Sam Vimes, it all feels horribly familiar. Caught on the roof of a very magical building during a storm, he's found himself back in his own rough, tough past without even the clothes he was standing up in when the lightning struck. Living in the past is hard, especially when your time travel companion is a serial killer who knows where you live. But he must survive, because he has a job to do: track down the murderer and change the outcome of the rebellion.

The problem is: if he wins, he's got no wife, no child, no future...

The Discworld novels can be listened to in any order but Night Watch is the sixth book in the City Watch series.

'The best Discworld book in the whole world ever. Until next time.' SFX

Absolutely Brilliant

Superb reading of one of my favourite Discworld books (though, to be fair I have many favourites!) Jon Culshaw is excellent and as usual ‘Death,’ and, ‘Footnotes,’ appear adding a brilliant link to each other book. I can’t imagine listening to this just the once!

Best of the Watch series so far

Loved it, always been one of my favourites and the narrator has really hit his stride

Truth, Justice, Freedom, Reasonably Priced Love and a Hard Boiled Egg.

nightwatch is considered by many to be Pratchetts magnum oppus, Jon Culshaw does a good job bringing the book to life. there are a few voices which do not fit (Madam, Rosy Palm and Reg Shoe) but can be stomached, I think he got Carcer slightly wrong but otherwise a solid performance.

how do they rise up...

A masterpiece

This is Terry Pratchett at his absolute finest. I’ve read and listened to this tale many times and it never loses its ability to weave its spell, cranking up the tension as the riot progresses and Vimes’ is placed under more and more pressure. Even though I know how the story ends, I’m still there willing Vimes’ on.

Engaging but flawed version of the best Pratchett

Yes, Culshaw is very good at voicing the second-rank characters and it's engaging and entertaining but to my mind he's got Carcer completely wrong. He needs to be charming, innocent and wounded which underscores what a villain he is.
Also, it does often sound like it's his first read, with pauses and emphasis in narration all through the text that are clearly in the wrong place.
It's good, but not a patch on Indira Varma's work.

Just incredible

A masterful book by an incredible quite phenomenal albeit philosophical author. It was absolutely breathtakingly and clearly with love and craftsmanship brought to life by the best person they could have chosen for the role, Jon Culshaw. I am listening to the night watch in order and I am completely immersed in this wonderful universe! Yes, in case you haven’t realised they are all brilliant. I’m no sycophant but bucket in the post if required!

I love this book. The performance was excellent, it really did it justice and a whole element to my enjoyment.

Just wonderful.

Jon Culshaw is fantastic, probably the best audio book performer. The real and contemporary political issues woven into Pratchet’s fantasy world is devastatingly effective and amusing.

Epic story telling

Pratchett was a master wordsmith with epic wit and dark humour, and this dramatisation does so much justice to one of my favourite of the night watch novels.
