About this listen

"Grabs you by the throat and won't let go." (Woman's Journal)

During their thirty years of marriage, Rose Redfern has confided everything (well, nearly everything) to Michael, and is certain that he would never hide anything from her. That's why it's such a shock when, shortly before Rose and Michael are set to take a romantic trip to Venice, she receives strong evidence that he's having an affair with a woman their daughters' age. Rose feels emotionally unmoored, and her sense of betrayal swiftly turns vengeful. She stumbles across a stash of powerful barbiturates, previously used to medicate an epileptic dog, and wonders if she might not find a new use for them…But is Michael truly unfaithful to Rose, or is someone seeking to destroy the Redferns' lives - and can that person be stopped before it's too late? Night Visitor is a frighteningly plausible scenario of how secrets and jealousy can tear people apart.

Really different, with a surprise twist.

Enjoyed this book very much, it was different and gripping with a plot twist ending that I didn't see coming. The narration was good, although I thought it a strange choice to have an American accent narrating a British story.

Worth it

If you can get over an American accent with the story being based in England - also quite a bad Welsh accent - then definitely worth a listen. Twists after thinking it was predictable

Excellent story, almost unbearable narration

Excellent story, almost unbearable narration. A story set in the UK with an American narrator was unexpected, some of the pronunciation was pretty horrendous and as for the Welsh accent, awful.

If you can get past the narration the story was compelling.

Good characters

I enjoyed this book, found it a little confusing in places. Worth a read as it’s free. One of the better free books. Liked the narrator,

Good storyline

Enjoyed the story on the whole although very off putting to be narrated by an American for an English set book and characters, the few Welsh accent parts were terrible. I kept second guessing if it was set in England or America-very confusing on that part.
Glad it was a free listen or may of returned it and not finished listening.

Be Prepared for the Roller Coaster ride....

This was a very interesting listen! I thought I was going to need some Vertigo Tablets for this one!!!! This author knows how to make you think... "Oh I know what's going on" Well think again!!! and again!! and maybe a few times more.

Loved this novel and will be interested to listen to another on of Gillian White's novels. Well worth the listen and love how all the twists and turns tie up nicely towards the end/ Highly recommended.

Good story plot but why an American narrator when it is clearly UK based story.

Liked the story, fast paced and twisty. A bit unbelievable but I still enjoyed it. Narrator would be best to stick to American based novels.

Interesting idea

The story had a potential and had some good twists, but for some reason it didn't really grip me, perhaps as the idea seems a bit far-fetched.

Why get an American to read a book about British people?

The American narrator tried to do a Welsh voice... oh my days... it sounded Cornish, Scottish & Irish!!! NEVER Welsh! The characters were all so unlikeable. You only wanted to know if the protagonist got caught! The story itself was pretty clever..but would have been SO MUCH better with a British narrator. At least it was free!
