About this listen

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. And thanks to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladylike thirst for blood.

Jane is now the latest recipient of a gift basket from the Newly Undead Welcoming Committee, and her life-after-lifestyle is taking some getting used to. Her recently deceased favorite aunt is now her ghostly roommate. She has to fake breathing and endure daytime hours to avoid coming out of the coffin to her family. She's forced to forgo her favorite down-home Southern cooking for bags of O negative. Her relationship with her sexy, mercurial vampire sire keeps running hot and cold. And if all that wasn't enough, it looks like someone in Half Moon Hollow is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. What's a nice undead girl to do?

Critic reviews

"Hysterical laughs are the hallmark of this enchanting paranormal debut....Harper keeps the quips coming without overdoing the sarcasm, and her take on vampire lore will intrigue and entertain even the most jaded paranormal fan." ( Publishers Weekly)

Excellent

Any additional comments?

I really loved this book. I just love Jane, she's so funny and so is her Great Aunt Jettie! I also loved Gabriel, Dick, Andrea, Jeb and Jolene! I enjoyed the story and Jane's initial adjustment to Vampire life although she still has to earn acceptance in the undead community. Poor Jane was the subject of a hate campaign in the story with some unknown targeting her to try and drive her out of the community or kill her.
She also has to deal with a nightmare family, well her dad's understanding and supportive, but her mum is high strung and very interfering, constantly trying to change Jane. Her sister is also scheming and always trying to put her down, not to mention being jealous that their Aunt Jettie left her house and everything in it to Jane when her sister is quite covetous of the house and the antiques within it.
I look forward to seeing how things go with her family as they have not handled news of her turning very well, well again her Dad is coping well and supportive of Jane but the rest of her living family is not dealing well with the news.
I'm really looking forward to the rest of the series!

Fang-tastic!

If you are a lover of the Sookie Stackhouse - True Blood books, you'll love this!
It's funny, refreshing and made me smile. It's nowhere near as ermmm.... 'adult' or 'naughty' as the Charlaine Harris books but a good listen. I really liked the narrator, she has a great voice and accent. I listened to the whole book in three days (whilst doing house-work) and have just downloaded the next one which I'm looking forward to.

funny and lighthearted

This book made me laugh out loud on several occasions. Molly Harper has a great sense of humour and I listened to all 4 books in succession, I rated every one a 5 star with the exception of the final book which became a bit predictable. A good escape from serious reading.
will have a break but probably get some other Molly Harprer/ Amanda Ronconi combo's in future

Well worth a credit

I really enjoyed this book. The character and story are both well written. Jane's character is great, she's funny, smart and full of sarcasm. Narration wasn't bad. Will definitely be getting the next in the series.

Good take on a vampire story

This is an interesting way to look at a vampire story. Don't expect over powered vampires. It's part romance and part mundane with a dash of detectorist combined with, well, vampires! I enjoyed it but it didn't make me want to read the next book.

Just what I needed.

Being a librarian named Jane, this book was a fantasy dream come true. Love the characters, the 'origin story' of Jane: vampire librarian and the warped sense of humour of the author. I'll be a seeking out the rest of the series!

Love this series

The combination of author and narrator is magical (no pun inteded) i love the world of half moon hollow and it's occupants. Having listened to the later series first i had a good idea of what was going to happen but this didn't take anything way from the story. I encourGe you to listen to all these books!

Amazing story

Another amazing story from Molly Harper. Brilliant start to her new series. Amanda really brings the story to life along with the characters. Great listen - couldn't put it down. Love the main character Jane, looking forward to seeing her evolve throughout the series

Light, funny, easy listening..

What did you like best about Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs? What did you like least?

Loved the quirky take on vampires and their way of life: the guide for the newly undead! If I'm honest, I didn't feel that much chemistry between Jane and her 'maker' (sorry I'm a truebie!)

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jane- just the right amount of crazy!

Have you listened to any of Amanda Ronconi’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Brilliant as ever!

If this book were a film would you go see it?

Of course! Vampires, werewolves, ghosts....what's not to love!
