About this listen

I wrote this guide as a soul enamored with the people and cultures of my beautiful city. New Orleans is full of contrasts—it has the most wonderful people, and the same major problems that most big cities face. It was one of the wealthiest cities, but has challenges with poverty and education.

We are an American city that is considered the most northern part of the Caribbean. We are the most European US city, and we are gumbo, a mix of Caribbean, African, European, Asian, American, Native American, and more.

Enjoy this guide as you learn through history, understanding the homes and neighbors, the music, and the food, by giving credit to those who made New Orleans possible. To those who suffered and died building the city and surrounding plantations, to those who grew rice, sugar, cotton, and whose inventions augmented economic growth. It is my prayer that this book will promote understanding, respect, and brotherhood in a city of beautiful people.
