Kevätiltana vuonna 2007 Nagasakin pormestari, Iccho Itoh, likvidoitiin ja ammuttiin keskelle katua. Iccho Itoh oli vaaleissa ehdolla kolmatta kertaa, kun hänet tapettiin. Murhaaja oli mies nimeltä Tesuya Shiroo, joka oli paikallisen jengin johtaja ja jolla oli siteitä Japanin mafiaan.
