About this listen

A victim of her mother’s Munchausen by proxy and child abuse survivor, Gypsy-Rose Blanchard’s unique and controversial case made headlines across the world.

Now, she’s finally free to start living her life on her terms—and to tell her own story as only she can.

Forced to use a wheelchair in public and endure a lifetime of faux illness, fraud, and exploitation, Gypsy was subjected not only to her mother’s medical, physical, and emotional abuse, but deprived of childhood milestones. Prevented from attending school or socializing, Gypsy’s formative years were defined by pain and isolation.

After serving eight years in prison for the role she played in her mother Dee Dee’s murder, Gypsy is embracing her fresh start—and reminding all of us that it’s never too late.

In this revelatory, harrowing, and ultimately hopeful memoir, Gypsy shares the painful realities she grew up with and the details of her life that only she knows, including:
• The abusive cycle that began with Dee Dee’s abuse by her father
• Gypsy’s fear that continued unnecessary surgery would leave her truly disabled
• How she coped with guilt and accepted responsibility for her mother’s death
• Memories of her final days in prison
• What she learned upon reviewing her own medical records for the first time
• How it felt to finally see her family again as her authentic self

Featuring new facts about Gypsy’s life that she previously kept private, My Time to Stand offers an unprecedented look at the real Gypsy-Rose Blanchard, proudly embarking on her ongoing journey to recovery and self-discovery.

A very sad series of preventable events. So many times Gypsy Rose was failed by the adults and experts in many fields that were in her life.
Likewise, it seems those same people failed her mother too, from her childhood until her untimely death.
Gypsy Rose explains in detail, her truth, in the weeks prior to her mothers murder. Giving the world an insight into her desperate state, let alone her mental state.
The abuse and systematic failings are all part of DeeDees demise.
It doesn't take away that Gypsy Rose, even with a huge lack of life experience and education, knew right from wrong. She knew taking a life or being complicit in taking a life, was wrong.
I've enjoyed the book, and hearing her side of the story, not the medias.
Well worth a listen.

Munchausen by Proxy

I loved how we heard a different side to the story as it came from Gypsy the person who lived it. There was nothing made up for dramatic effect. The fact that Gypsy read it made it that more special, hopefully she writes another book in a few years so we can follow her story!

Amazing story and even better since Gypsy read it and read it well.

This was well narrated by Gypsy, which I feel made the words more poignant. Very good for a first book.

A good read.

really enjoyed listening to Gypsy Rose's new book, few minor mistakes with her dialogue but nothing worth loosing any stars, she really did have a rough time which resulted in desperate measures and is quite eye opening for the listener, well done Gypsy, great book.

Very well written and hits home more being read by Gypsy herself..
The recalling of events and the way it was delivered made it an easy listen but not easy to hear all the stuff she had to endure.

Gypsy reading her own story

Very well written, and to hear in Gypsy's own voice of her struggles, pain, torment, frustration, and how compundingly let down she was by so many agencies.
she will forever battle the learned and enforced behaviour. an adult learning to live and love while all playing catch up on what we call not al milestones and achievements. she never had and never will have a "normal" life and will forever be learning but hopefully staying in therapy will allow her live her life

Impactful and poignant
