About this listen

In his concise, richly detailed memoir My Sixty Years on the Plains, fur-trapper W. T. Hamilton - also known as "Wildcat Bill"-gives the listener a first-hand account of life outdoors in the Old West. From trailblazing to trading with Indians, Hamilton relates how a mountain man relied on his wits and specialized knowledge in order to survive the inhospitable environments.

I thought this book was magnificent. Being British, I’m not too interested in American history , but being 76 , I was brought up on tales of Cowboys and Indians. The authors understated style and intimate knowledge of trapping in those early days made this book fascinating. His descriptions of Indian fighting turned everything I thought I knew about the subject on it’s head. I thoroughly recommend this book as an adventure story and a true description of the Old West.
