I really enjoyed this book. As a fan of the Tudor area I have read a lot about it. This was narrated from a different viewpoint and brings Anne to the forefront. Very well read. I enjoyed it a lot.

I enjoyed the story, despite the inclusion of too many lusty scenes, as mentioned in other reviews. A good portrayal of the scheming required to survive at the Tudor court.
The narration was good, male and female voices expressed convincingly and I appreciate English history narrated in the same accent as the country in which it is set.
I assume the text was taken from the original novel written by E Knight, an American. The use of ‘gotten’ used as frequently as ‘for certes’ drove me mad. Either use old English words/sayings or current American. I can guarantee that Anne Seymour never once used the word ‘gotten’!

I too am an avid reader of Tudor history and enjoyed the way in which brought the intrigues of court to life. I very much enjoyed the clarification at end of of book. It puts to rest where history and fiction tied neatly together

irritated by the endless flirtation scenes and repetitive intimate scenes between the "heroine" and her husband. I kept thinking "oh do get on with it". If it had been a book I'd had to pay for I would have returned it. As it was I suppose I probably only listened to an eighth of the book. Pity as I'm fond of Tudor themes but this was a waste of my time.

It is interesting to read the story of Queen Jane Seymour and the rise of certain members of the Seymour family: her eldest surviving brother, Edward, his indomitable wife, Anne (nee Stanhope) and Thomas Seymour, a younger brother.

The point of view is that of Lady Anne, whose titles change as Edward Seymour ascend the rungs of power in Henry VIII’s competitive court.
Despite the title,”My Lady Viper” is tantalising, given her genuine affection for her frail sister-in-law, Jane — portrayed as a puppet in the hands of the power-hungry Seymour’s.

Yet, this novel is more firmly in the domain of fiction,rather than historical fiction. Though this may seem unfair, The factual base of the novel does not hold up well, when read in the light of Alison Weirs history of Henry VIII’s six wives and her individual historical novels based on each of his six unfortunate wives.

Lady Anne Stanhope saves the novel, through her tart assessments of court politics, while, nevertheless, being embedded in court scheming. She is both vulnerable to the romance of male courtiers and the subservience of female ladies and those who serve them. Anne resists the harassment of the poet, Earl of Surrey and toys with the affections of Sir Anthony Browne, one of Henry’s right-hand men. But can she survive what follows Jane’s passing, Henry’s swing to the right and his overuse of Tower Green to dispatch any enemies, perceived or real? Keep reading to discover Anne’s future.

Good story and well wrote, easy to follow and told from Anne Seymour POV, interesting and can be funny at times

What did you like most about My Lady Viper?

I think I much prefered reading The Lady Viper as it allowed me to create my own characters just as I viewed them and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Then I had the opportunity to listen to the book which, is not quite working for me.

What did you like best about this story?

This is a complex story about a woman living in a terrifing mans world of power, wonder and lust. She is treated by everyone more like a product of there foul ambition than a human being. She has to be all things to all people and she is not even the queen, just a Lady at Court fighting for her own position in the Tudor jungle.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I am sorry, but the Viper flits from one scene of lusting with her husband to lusting with what ever man is at her side, that nothing particularly stands out other than the start of fhe book at the Be Heading of Anne Boylen.

I am only at chapter nine and I feel I am dragging myself up and down mount Everest, the story is lagging so much. I am bored of the repativeness of the story which I did not nituce when I read the book. The narrator is nothing outstanding but not too bad either, but the book needs to have it spoken with a little nore JutzPa ! I think this is an audible I will need to keep going back to once I have finished listening to something more enjoyable. I prefer reading the book myself.
