About this listen

Courtney

I’m just so exhausted—always living on the edge of desperation, one paycheck away from ruin.

But this new job…

It could be the fresh start I need.

It could change everything.

The contract is only for three months, but if I keep my head down, work hard, and prove myself, maybe I could stay longer.

Maybe I could make Black Mountain Lodge my home.

As I pull down the gravel drive, surrounded by the forest and mountains and bright blue skies, I feel something I haven’t felt in a while.

I feel hope.

Sterling

My new employee is late.

I’m already in a bad mood about having to train him, still salty about my old guy retiring on me.

But while I’m waiting, a woman pulls up my drive.

A woman straight from my damn dreams.

Curvy and pretty, looking at me with wide eyes framed with sooty lashes.

And suddenly, I’m no longer thinking about my late employee.

But then she opens her mouth and asks for me, introducing herself as Courtney, my new hire.

Courtney. Not Court, like the application said.

And I realize there’s been a mistake.

I can’t have this woman working here. Living on my property. Distracting me. I mean, my staff.

No. She can’t work for me. End of story.

Except she won’t leave. She even threatens to sue me.

Fine. If she won’t let me fire her before she even starts, then I’ll just have to make her leave on her own.

Happy and cute and a little bit spicy. Not to complex and who doesn’t love a really happy ending

Loved this grumpy, protective, morally grey man with a super attractive voice. A romantic story well written. The narrators did a great job really adding to the emotional connection

My new favourite book boyfriend

Really fun and well written, the only thing which bothered me was the very short chapters which sometimes occur, which could have been a duet instead of chapters.

The story and book are great

so the story is good and some nice romantic elements but the female narrator is irritating, she speaks with such a high tone and dragged out words at the end of every sentence, like an influencer does, it is very annoying.
I would recommend it as a good read the story is good enough to get over the narrator.

nice story but annoying narrator

could really relate to female main character. story had twists and turns but was good and kept interest. some "weird" bits in it, and a few unanswered questions but nothing that detracts. looking forward to the others in the series being released on audiobook

This was my first SJ Tilly but I am going to add all her books to my tbr now! I loved this book!
Grumpy Sterling who falls for Courtney the moment he sees her but tries to scare her off with his grumpyness and independant Courtney who litterally falls for Sterlings hairy chest.
Their chemistry was insane!
And when he cared for her when she was sick, swoon!

The duet narration and short chapters were perfection, you could feel the tension between Sterling and his Courtney

Swoon

Decent storyline with a couple of twists. Loved the spice. Really well read by both narrators. I’ll definitely buy other books by the author now.
The short chapters were a bit odd. It would have worked better if the chapter numbers weren’t spoken. But that’s a very minor complaint and it didn’t spoil the overall experience of listening.

Enjoyable

I am going to admit it, BookTok got me with this one, and it might be the first time a BookTok book actually worked for me. No one is more shocked than I am.

I wasn’t expecting that because this author is not one I seek out. But she killed it with this one.

I loved the bossiness of Sterling, the fact that he gets thrown a curve ball, and he goes with it well. Courtney kind of doesn’t let him say no.
He falls first, and I love it.
It’s undeniable the chemistry between them, even if Sterling is cold and distant toward her, she doesn’t let that get her down.
From the age gap to the boss, employee to the friends to lovers, this book really gives, and I was so here for it.

The narrators are amazing, but I wouldn’t expect anything less from Erin and Connor.
