Max Frisch nimmt die Affäre zum Anlaß über sein grundsätzliches Verhältnis zu den Frauen in seinem Leben zu reflektieren: Die autobiographische Erzählung über diese Romanze im Mai 1974 teilt Max Frisch in viele einzelne Teile auf, die er mit Erinnerungen, Tagebuchauszügen, Selbstreflexionen und anderem autobiografischen Material zu einer Collage montiert. Besonders interessant sind die Passagen, die aus dem Nähkästchen der Beziehung zu der kapriziösen Ingeborg Bachmann plaudern.
