About this listen

When her fiancé, Giles Armitage, is lost at sea in the middle of the Second World War, Meade Underwood is left in the company of a middle-aged aunt with nothing but a monotonous round of bridge parties and war work to fill her days. A chance encounter restores Giles to Meade but he has lost his memory, and their rediscovered happiness is threatened by the machinations of the scheming Carola Roland, a figure from Giles's forgotten past. So when Carola is viciously murdered, Giles becomes the chief suspect and it takes all Miss Silver's ingenuity to unravel the real significance of the crime and its electrifying consequences.

Really enjoyed this story - not obvious who it was until the end. Entertaining with good old fashioned innocent love interest.

Good old fashioned entertainment

After listening to the first Miss Silver book I almost didn't go any further but I am so pleased that I did. These are atmospheric, light reads - this one was perfect whilst laid low with flu. They're also good when travelling. They don't take long to read, easy to pick up and put down and some twisty stories to keep them interesting.

I really enjoyed this. Reminiscent of Miss Marple but slightly easier to follow! Complex enough to hold interest and to allow the listener to have one of those “oh NOW I see!!” moments at the end, without being so insanely complex that you end up feeling slightly annoyed that you didn’t have a hope of working it out for yourself (Poirot often makes me feel like that).
Diana Bishop is perfect, endlessly versatile and a pleasure to listen to

I don’t understand why some people think this isn’t one of her best books. I loved it.

One of her best

With each new book I listen to Miss Silver comes more into he own and we see more of her. It would be interesting to see her and Miss Marple together

Well done Miss Silver

I am a fan of these books send own neatly all of them, and wanted an audio version. I cannot say that the sample filed me with confidence and this was borne out in the listening. For a story full of murder, blackmail and mystery the draw,I very is very flat and one-paced. If you were laying in bed with flu you could drift in and out quite comfortably
but otherwise it is a bit depressing.

Miss Silver, a little disappointing

Not up to Patricia Wentworth's usual standard - a rather dull and repetitive narrative. Read beautifully by Diana Bishop.

Not the best Miss Silver Story!
