Perfect Narrator

Fenella Woolgar is a wonderful narrator with an uncanny ability to bring different voices to life. At times I could have believed I was listening to a full-cast drama, such was the clarity of voices and accents. Her Poirot was excellent.

Good collection of winter-themed mysteries

The ideal festive companion for the Agatha Christie fan. Midwinter Mysteries includes short stories featuring Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, Parker Pyne and Harley Quinn alongside some standalone selections. While not all of the stories are of equal merit, most are strong. The much-anthologised Adventure of the Christmas Pudding concludes the volume. Fenella Woolgar's narration works equally well throughout. Recommended.

Excellent Stories but poor narration

The stories are some of the best short stories by Agatha Christie, the narrator is very good at all the accents EXCEPT Hercule Poirot…. He sounded more a whispered effeminate Charlie Chan than Poirot, definitely the worst Poirot I’ve ever heard.

If you ignore that, then this could be a good listen.

Gasp, gasp!

I LOVE the stories, Agatha Christie is an incredibly skilled writer, however, I struggled with the narrator taking big gasps of breath (particularly during stories featuring Poirot) it really distracted me from the story.

Good stories, audio poor

Great short stories to listen to - about half an hour each. Mix of Poirot, Marple and others.

Narration volume varies a lot between characters and stories which was annoying and meant I continually jumped as a very loud voice suddenly came in my ears! The narrator was good but gasped a lot. Not as good as Hugh Fraser (but no one is)

4.25/5

A wonderfully wintery collection of short stories from the marvellous Agatha Christie. Featuring an array of her beloved characters, this collection has a murderously magnificent feel.

- Each story is fairly short but wonderfully done. I enjoyed some more than other and some were more complex whereas others were simple but all were fun.

- If you enjoy Christie's famous detectives then you won't be disappointed. There's several involving Monsieur Poirot, a couple with Miss Marple and one or two with other less well known characters too.

- The narrator did an excellent job reading these tales. I particularly enjoyed how plummy she made the voices of the more upper class characters.

Perfect for those who love cosy mystery and festive vibes.
