Małe, górskie miasteczko. Czternastoletnia Agata zostaje znaleziona w górach, w stanie krytycznym. Kiedy na miejsce przybywają pierwsi dziennikarze, dowiadują się, że dziewczynka była wychowywana przez samotną matkę. Kolejne informacje o kobiecie bulwersują opinię publiczną. Rozpoczyna się dziennikarskie śledztwo, w którym na szali znajduje się życie nie tylko dziewczynki, ale też jej matki. Z każdą chwilą objawiają się nieznane oblicza bohaterów dramatu: dyrektorki szkoły, koleżanek, mieszkańców miasteczka. Nowego znaczenia nabierają słowa „odpowiedzialność” i „manipulacja”. Niemym świadkiem wydarzeń jest pogrążona w śpiączce, nieprzytomna Agata.
