About this listen

The only way to fight a powerful darkness is with a powerful love

Olivia Moreland prides herself on discrediting charlatans, particularly the false mediums that flock to London. But when Lord Stephen St. Leger requests her help in investigating an alleged psychic's claims, she can't deny the ominous feeling she has within the walls of his ancient estate - or the intimately familiar connection she has with Stephen himself.

The last time he'd called Blackhope Hall home, Stephen had watched as his elder brother claimed both the family title and the woman he loved. Now, in the wake of his brother's murder, Stephen has reluctantly returned to find his family ensconced in scandal. Who is responsible for his brother's untimely death? And what is it about investigator Olivia Moreland that so thoroughly draws him in, reigniting a passion he hasn't felt in years?

Contains mature themes.

Typical Will Thorne/Alex Wyndham narration full of passion and drama, fitting for this "American" Regency/Reformation romp with some hilarious faux pas of language as a result; did the people in the Middle Ages know they were in the Middle Ages? Very Amanda Quick style romance but without the Zainar.

It takes the MCs only an hour to scour his library for images of medieval costume, William Caxton eat your heart out! Bodices are removed, kisses are stolen, and ghosts walk through walls. Flash backs and flashes of nipple add spice and xest.

AMUSING ROMP

PS If you enjoy Will Thorne, check out Reign by Roxie Noir; a fab royal romance romp.

I really enjoyed this book.
And wow… what fabulous narration.
Great characters and such an interesting story.
Was sad to leave it behind when it finished.

I loved it

The story was riveting. In fact this was the only reason I listened until the end. The problem was the narrator. At the end of every single sentence, he lifted his intonation as though asking a question - whether he was describing a place, setting up a scene or when something exciting actually warranted it. It was really irritating and did not do justice to the writing.

Something different and I enjoyed the story and fantasy but did guess who one of the villains was earlier on that is why I made it a 4 star

I loved this so much. Not only was I blissfully happy to listen to “Will Thorne” (aka my favourite narrator, who apparently also narrates under another name—which I am fine with because his voice should not be confined to the wonders of Stella Riley and Lucinda Brant’s writing) but also because the hero and heroine were so sweet and gentle and loving which was a welcome change from the typical HR character tropes. Then add the mystery and the parallel medieval storyline and it was an utter delight. I’m super pleased with this new author/narrator combo and can’t wait for the rest of the series.

So good

I love a good murder mystery plot and I love historical romances - this series is just fab as you get both in the one book. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, one of my favourite narrators (under a different name) just beings it all together to be brilliant!! - buy now and do not even hesitate!! Best credits ever!

These are just brilliant!

I thoroughly enjoyed this because I found it difficult to stop listening later in the evening, I was so gripped by the intensity of it all. The reader told the story very well and kept me truly hanging in for more revelations .

Great story

I really enjoyed the mystery aspect of this story, a cleverly woven tale of investigations into fake psychics and clairvoyants, entwined with unexplained paranormal dreams, made it a much more interesting listen than your run of the mill romance period romance....And brilliantly by Will Thorn.

Unusual story, that kept me enthralled
