Editor reviews

Coach Dave Brailsford has been responsible for bringing British cycling to world dominance, overseeing victories in the 2012 and 2013 Tour de France. This behind-the-scenes look at his career considers his management style, psychology, and philosophy, focusing on his response to doping and other crises during his term at the helm of Team Sky. Cycling writer (and able, if sedate, narrator) Roger Moore looks at Brailsford's response to these challenges, including his reliance on confidants and management manuals. A short but intimate look at an elusive figure making a major dent in the sports world today.

An intersting insight into what it takes to run such an empire of a team, And great to hear the late Richard Moore's voice.

I paid less than £2 for this. I think that's a fair price I certainly wouldn't have wanted to pay any more.

For me this is worth a listen but doesn't contain the detail I would like.

Ok for the price

I'm a big cycling fan but didn't know much about Brailsford until listening to this. it's great to know what he's like behind the scenes to link to what you're watching on TV.
Could have outsourced the narration for a bit more enthusiasm but it's not as bad as other reviews make out.

Great content, interesting insights

I wanted to learn more about Dave Brailsford after hearing Alastair Campbell talk about him on the High Performance podcast, and whilst this book gave an overview of how he got to where he did, I walked away a little disappointed. I don't feel there was any real depth to it, and the best thing I walked away with from this story was the psychiatrist Professor Steve Peters who worked alongside Dave. I had the Chimp Paradox book from Steve that I got years ago, but I never persevered with it as I thought the chimp thing was a little gimmicky. However that's going to change now, as I didn't realise quite how good Steve was at his job, so if anything, this has at least opened my eyes to giving Steve's book another chance. So for that alone, thank you.

It's short, but not as great as I'd hoped!

This was an excellent short insight into the man and the hidden mechanics of the team. Well worth a listen.

Brilliant short book

I was hoping to get a little more insight into the Marginal Gains theory - this isn’t the book I expected, but loved! :)

Really interesting!

I’ve never even watched cycling and I loved it!

The narrator monotonous voice made an average listening in to a disappointment!
I was expecting a bit more insight into specific events and riders, only the surface was scratched.

disappointed

Expected more insight into what he’d actually done. This was a pretty basic overview of how he got there and how he liked to read business books. 100 name drops for David Cameron. Passed the time on the train but little in the way of information.

Nothing new
