Miss Marple was first introduced to readers in a story Christie wrote for The Royal Magazine in 1927 and made her first appearance in a full-length novel in 1930’s The Murder at the Vicarage. It has been 45 years since Agatha Christie’s last Marple novel, Sleeping Murder, was published posthumously in 1976, and this collection of ingenious new stories by twelve Christie devotees will be a timely reminder why Jane Marple remains the most famous fictional female detective of all time.

Good to have new Marple's after Poirot's lifeline

In the main I enjoyed this collection, although some of the characterisations of Miss Marple are a little incongruous to her age. The best interpretation comes from Celia Imrie yet this is the worst recording as it seems to have been uploaded without any review of the recording. Repeated readings and coughing are not what would be expected on a book of this quality.

Hope there are more new Marple stories given the success of the new Poirot books we've had.

Bought this on a whim and it was excellent

I enjoyed all of these stories. The authors caught Christie's voice very well. Some were inevitably better than others but none were poor.

Performance over substance

A forgettable collection of Miss Marple stories, where the performance by each narrator out shines the texts.

Enjoyable but not mind-blowing collection

I've never read any of Christie's Marple stories but I am familiar with the character and I've read several Poirot books.
These short stories capture the character of Miss Marple and the authors manage to put their own style in while keeping the narrative within a Christie feel.
I'm a bit of a detective novel fan and the thing about these stories is that they are pretty standard. Nothing out of the ordinary or ground breaking really. The best way to describe them is that the are just nice stories. And there's the issue. I don't need such stories to be violent or gory or modern but these are just a little bland and a tad boring. To the extent that having just finished the audio book I can't really remember any of them.
I enjoyed them and the performances but I just didn't find them memorable.

The audiobook need a better editor

The stories are great. The narrators are all excellent. The editor needs to learn to listen… there are multiple occasions where there are lines repeated, including in one chapter where the narrator repeats a line twice and the coughs to clear her voice and then repeats more lines. It’s a real shame these issues have been missed because they dampen what is an otherwise excellent production.

The stories themselves are fabulous though. This is a real book of love for Miss Marple. I loved it. The changing narrators added to this book, with each Marple take having a different book.

I really recommend you give this a listen if you love Miss Marple. And I really recommend the editors spend a day relistening and editing!

brilliant stories lovely to have some new ones

Some really lovely stories about Miss Marple, so varied in setting and brought up to date. All the performers are very good, but the production is not always brilliant. Repetitions and corrections have not all been edited properly, which is not great.

Revisiting old friends

It’s obvious that these writers are true fans of miss marple and golden age detective novels. Lovely to hear about Colonel Bantry, Raymond West and reverend Clement again. I liked some stories more than others but each had charm and authenticity. Very much enjoyed the image of Miss Marple practicing Tai chi! Look forward to more. 🤞
