About this listen

This box set includes all three books in the bestselling Mage's Apprentice series, complete with sinister magic, nonstop action, enemies-to-lovers romance, and twists you won't see coming!

A magic-less thief apprenticed to the strongest Mage on the New York City Council. What could possibly go wrong . . .

Aspen is a Norm. A non-magic. A human. And in this supernatural city, that's a quick way to wind up dead. Or worse.

She didn't plan on becoming an apprentice to Lucien Dunadine, one of the strongest members on the Council of Mages.

She really didn't plan on taking part in a deadly competition against Isak Uchida, her handsome, aggravating, deadly opponent.

But with something sinister going down in the magic boroughs, they'll all have to work together if they want to uncover the source of an ancient evil threatening their home. An evil that will take them from the supernatural streets of New York to the magic-filled Highlands of Scotland; from facing off against the vicious Kings of Magic to taking on the most powerful dark force their world has ever known.

And if they fail, everyone and everything they love will be consumed by darkness.

Loved this story until it goes to Scotland. Up to this point the narration was great but this is a prime example of leaving accents alone if you can’t do them as they are truly dreadful and most definitely not Scottish. I’ve struggled to listen to the book after this as it’s frustrating and somewhat annoying.

Great story - hints of Harry Potter

Nothing new, which doesn’t detract from it being an enjoyable listen. Magic is my genre so when I say nothing new, that’s not a bad thing

Enjoyed this but

Great little find, I enjoy these the only downside is that Scottish accent. You really can’t do that accent 😊

Fantastic

I couldn't listen to the narrator anymore. Story is also a bad Harry Potter rip off. For children.

annoying narrator

The Scottish accent sounded more Irish, I should know cause I'm Scottish 😆. Other than that I loved it.

The story, characters and narration were all very good but I began to lose interest part-way through the final book; seemed like it was more of the same and the "he said", "she said" then "he said", "they said" then "she said" wore me down; still, I persevered to the end. Glad I did because it ended well. If you can get past the "said, said, said, said" then there is a good story in there!

Mage's Apprentice - Complete Series

This was a great free trilogy which kept my interest through all 3 books.
Generally, the story held my imagination; keeping it well fed with a constant supply of tidnits throughout.

My only real gripe was one connected with many author outside the UK. Scotland is NOT just rain, mist, and grey mountains! It's a beautiful country with ALL the normal range of weather variants. Perhaps more than the author's locale!

The elephant in the room has to be the narrator.

What a boring voice! I truely think she was bored reading it.

Additionally, the use of Scots accent was a big mistake for her. What did she listen to to learn it's complexity, a Walt Disney cartoon? Just kept giving me aurel jolts with every doopped phrase and vernacular bomb. Often the Scots accent dropped into a weird Irish/Australian drawl.

Good story; steady and inventive. awful narration.
