Doch Marty ist traurig: Zu sehr beschäftigt ihn der Gedanke an die Freiheit. Und als er eines Tages zufällig hinter den Fluchtversuch einiger Pinguine kommt, ist er kurz darauf verschwunden. Als sich alle vier Freunde nach einer rasanten Flucht durch das New Yorker U-Bahn-Netz in Kisten verpackt auf einem Schiff wiederfinden, sind sie Martys Wunsch "zurück in die Wildnis" unfreiwillig näher als sie glauben: Vor der Küste der Insel Madagaskar gehen sie erst über Bord, um gestrandet aus erster Hand zu erfahren, wie sich das wilde, neue Leben anfühlt.
