About this listen
For 3,000 years, the world’s most dangerous treasure has been lost. Now the code that reveals its hiding place is about to be broken.
Sam Grant is a disgraced ex-SOE soldier and an adventurer by trade. But he has a secret: six years ago, a dying archaeologist entrusted him with his life’s work - transcripts of mysterious writing found in a hidden cave on Crete. Deciphered, it could lead to one of the greatest prizes in history. But the treasure is as dangerous as it is valuable. The CIA wants it; so does the KGB.
Helped by a brilliant Oxford professor, and a beautiful Greek archaeologist with her own secrets to hide, Grant is plunged into a labyrinth of ancient cults, forgotten mysteries, and lost civilizations. But time is running out. The secrets of the distant past may hold the key to the newest threats of the modern world…

Is there anything you would change about this book?
The start needs to me more immediate- it drags on a bit, and there is too much focus on shootings, and not enough on the history. It also takes a while to establish the characters. However once the characters discover their first temple the story gets moving and becomes interesting.Stick with it!

What will your next listen be?
Having read three of Tom Harpers books this was by far the least believable, the numerous incidents that had me saying "That wouldn't happen" or "That makes no sense" spoiled the whole book for me.Whatever I read will not be anything in this series.
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
The narrator was excellentAny additional comments?
Although it started well I gave up on this book about a third of the way through, but ran out of books on holiday so returned to it in sheer desperation, hoping that at some point it would improve... it didn't.Not good...
