From London to New York, Ewan and Charley chased their shadows through Europe, the Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Russia, across the Pacific to Alaska, then down through Canada and America. But as the miles slipped beneath the tyres of their big BMWs, their troubles started. Exhaustion, injury and accidents tested their strength. Treacherous roads, unpredictable weather and turbulent politics challenged their stamina. They were chased by paparazzi in Kazakhstan, courted by men with very large guns in the Ukraine, hassled by the police, and given bulls' testicles for supper by Mongolian nomads.

And yet despite all these obstacles they managed to ride more than 20,000 miles in four months, changing their lives forever in the process. As they travelled they documented their trip, taking photographs, and writing diaries by the campfire. Long Way Round is the result of their adventures - a fascinating, frank and highly entertaining travel book about two friends riding round the world together and, against all the odds, realising their dream.

Very good, I cannot believe I missed the tv programme, this is a great book to listen too while driving long distances, I really enjoyed listening to this. The only criticism I have is the voices take a bit of getting used to, in fact I had to to go back and listen to the first twenty minutes again just to get used to their voices not matching the characters we all know but after that it's great, I noticed when reading reviews before I purchased this audiobook that someone else had put the same comment. It's such a shame it's not in their own voices, But don't be put off by this it's still a great listen

Very good for a long journey

A previous review mentioned about moaning but I have defend the moaning. When out in the middle of no where your worst hurdle is yourself. I thought it was insightful to get the bad with good and see that even with the support team it was grueling both mentally and physically. I don't want to hear about the glossy bits I want to know what their fears and concerns are to, thus giving the listener an insightful view about the things we need to worry about and know that later,sometimes, it seems inconsequential. Very useful to smear a little RW to those dreaming of taking a journey like this. What I got from it is what I thought anyway, planning is paramount and this is insightful to hear about the bureaucracy surrounding the boarder control in the Eastern European countries like Kazakhstan. A worth while audible journey to take, grunts and all. The funny thing about this audible is when Charlie is on, it sounds like Ewan in Star Wars.

This book absolutely enthralled me from the start! I have read the second book so was pretty much aware of what format it would be in.This book is not just for motorbike lovers or travel buffs,but there's something there for everyone,it was also my first foray into the Audio format! Great I could still listen while cooking,cleaning - I loved it,given the option I would've gone for the Unabridged version as it ended oh too quickly for my liking. Well done and thank you Audible for introducing me to a whole new world of books. As for Ewan & Charlie it was fantastic to hear both of your views on the same events and can only imagine what it would have taken to complete such an amazing,once in a life-time journey! this book deserves the five out of five that I gave it,(and more!).

I have just taken up motorcycle riding and often ride out onto the greenlanes of the Derbyshire Peak District. I was reccomended the book by a fellow biker and have enjoyed the ride.

Listened to after watching the series many years before.

A little hesitant of the performances at first but you get used to them and can imagine Charlie and Ewan saying exactly what has been written.

A nice length audiobook, just a shame it’s finished, looking forward to listening to Long away Down.
