About this listen

This program is read by William Shatner.

Star Trek legend and veteran author William Shatner discusses the meaning of life, finding value in work, and living well whatever your age in this fascinating audiobook.

"I have always felt", William Shatner says early in his newest memoir, that "like the great comedian George Burns, who lived to 100, I couldn’t die as long as I was booked." And Shatner is always booked.

Still, a brief health scare in 2016 forced him to take stock. After mulling over the lessons he's learned, the places he's been, and all the miracles and strange occurrences he's witnessed over the course of an enduring career in Hollywood and on the stage, he arrived at one simple rule for living a long and good life: don't die.

It's the only one-size-fits-all advice, Shatner argues in Live Long and..: What I Learned Along the Way, because everyone has a unique life - but, to help us all out, he's more than willing to share stories from his unique life. With a combination of pithy humor and thoughtful vulnerability, Shatner lays out his journey from childhood to peak stardom and all the bumps in the road. (Sometimes the literal road, as in the case of his 2,400-mile motorcycle trip across the country with a bike that didn't function.)

William Shatner is one of our most beloved entertainers, and he intends never to stop entertaining. His funny, provocative, and poignant reflections form an unforgettable audiobook about a remarkable man.

Both touching and inspiring.

I found myself so drawn into this candid and positive narration, that I finished it in a couple of days. Mr Shatner emotes warmth and humanity in conveying the pragmatic and flexible attitude which has obviously served him well. Who would have thought Captain Kirk would have evolved into so worthy an Elder? It brought a tear to my eye and left me feeling committed to seizing the day!

Thoughtful

Was great to hear such a varied actor reminiscing about life not just career. Defines the importance of long term friendship and how important it is not to be alone

Thank you Bill Shatner

I don’t normally review books. I read or listen then move on to the next one. And I’m not going to review this one.
Instead I’m going to say thank you Bill Shatner for sharing your story and enriching my life for hours.
I’m looking forward to your next book in 10 years time.

Your role as Captain Kirk excited me as a young 6 year old child in the 70’s and your life story makes me smile as I approach half a century and your honesty is refreshing.

To the next 10 years.

Chris.

it's a powerful read

have read many of Bill Shatners books, lots of laughs and lots of humour in them. This is very different very deep and emotional on Bill's part lots of his life told in powerful stories. Not many laughs in this book, but it's the real William Shatner and I never believed the story he said why he never went to Leonards funeral and the truth is rather sad.
In a way Bill is scared to slow down and relax I think he feels that if he still lives at 100mph every day then he will stay alive longer. it's interesting to read how scared of dying he is. it's so much better listening to this you can feel Bill's emotions as his tone changes

I could listen to him all day, so I did!

William Shatner’s book is a great listen. He is warm, open, honest and very down to earth in his book. His charming humour and out look is uplifting. Even though he is a huge Hollywood name, he is so relatable on a personal level. Much of this book made me smile but also made me think, yes we do do that and feel that, why is that so? He also made me want to live my everyday to the fullest and have a new zest for life. That I did not expect from reading this...
Once I started listening to this book I couldn’t stop. I popped in my headphones and continued to listen to it throughout the day. He was great company. This is a book I shall listen to again from time to time for sure.
