About this listen

Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine are two of the most recognisable figures of the Middle Ages, and almost certainly the best-known couple. The lives of their sons have been examined in detail many times, but their daughters are barely known despite the influence they exerted on the world around them. Joanna, the youngest daughter, led an extraordinary life full of travel, adventure, danger, and controversy. Her story is told here in full for the first time.

I very much enjoyed the book. It’s a period of history I know some details of but this gave greater insight into Joanna than I had come across elsewhere.

Unfortunately I found the narration incredibly irritating as the pronunciation was all over the place. A very large number of names and words were pronounced wrongly and not even consistently wrongly which made my teeth itch and took away from the quality of the writing.

I would very much recommend it but probably to read rather than listen to.

Brilliant book, a shame about the narration
