This is a clear, well-organized resource for teens learning how to take care of themselves. It covers everyday topics like budgeting, cooking, basic home tasks, and time management without being boring or overwhelming. The money section offers smart reminders about saving and avoiding debt, and the cooking ideas are simple enough to try without much experience. There’s also thoughtful coverage of communication, stress, and organization, topics that aren’t always talked about but make a big difference. It's respectful and easy to understand, making it approachable for teens without sounding like a lecture. It’s a good pick for anyone starting to take more responsibility for their day-to-day life or for parents who want to encourage their teens to be more independent. It covers a wide range of useful topics and would make a good gift for a high school student getting ready for life beyond home.

I got this for my niece, but ended up listening to it out of curiosity and I’m glad I did. It covers a bunch of stuff I wish I’d learned earlier, like budgeting, time management, and even basic cooking tips. It’s super straightforward and doesn’t talk down to you. Honestly, every teen should hear this before moving out. I’ve already recommended it to a few friends with high schoolers. It’s a great crash course in being a functional adult.

I got this for my teenage nephew and ended up listening to most of it myself. It’s straightforward, super easy to follow, and actually kept his attention—which is saying something. He learned how to budget, cook a few meals, and even fixed a small leak under the sink. It covers a lot without sounding preachy or overwhelming. If you're trying to help a teen feel more capable and independent, this is a solid place to start.

I have always believed schools fall short in preparing students for when they graduate and face the future on their own. They mostly do not have the skills to keep a place to live (maintenance, cleaning, furnishing), cook nutritious meals that will enhance their health (including the utensils needed to do that), maintain their finances, keep their vehicle in running condition, and even what they need in a personal toolbox. This book covers it all and much, much more in a friendly, step-by-step manner. Great for a gift to a teen!

Where to start? First of all, I love that the skills covered in this book, actually prep teenagers for adulthood in a way that the public school’s tragically failed to do so. From budgeting to grocery shopping, and doing basic repairs around the home, this book is awesome. The chapter is covering communication other people? Incredible! This is what public schools SHOULD be teaching. It’s a shame that we are dealing with a flawed system, but this book is geared towards rectifying that problem. I receive this book for free, but I definitely would have bought it with my own money.

Sought this book out with my siblings in mind!

Got this for my teenager and ended up flipping through it myself, super practical stuff that schools don’t really cover. It explains things clearly without talking down, which my teen appreciated. From budgeting to basic cooking, it gave her tools she could actually use right away. It’s helped her feel more confident doing things on her own, and I feel better knowing she has a solid foundation. Great guide for setting teens up for real world success.

I bought this for my 15-year-old and we’ve been going through it together. It covers practical stuff like budgeting, cooking basics, and fixing little things around the house—stuff I wish I’d learned earlier. It’s written in a way that doesn’t feel boring or preachy, which made it easier for my teen to actually stay interested. I’ve seen a real boost in confidence, especially around money and chores. Definitely worth it for helping them feel more independent.
