About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

She was known to the world as Emily Doe when she stunned millions with a letter. Brock Turner had been sentenced to just six months in county jail after he was found sexually assaulting her on Stanford's campus. Her victim impact statement was posted on Buzzfeed, where it instantly went viral - viewed by 11 million people within four days, it was translated globally and read on the floor of Congress; it inspired changes in California law and the recall of the judge in the case. Thousands wrote to say that she had given them the courage to share their own experiences of assault for the first time.

Now she reclaims her identity to tell her story of trauma, transcendence, and the power of words. It was the perfect case, in many ways - there were eyewitnesses, Turner ran away, physical evidence was immediately secured. But her struggles with isolation and shame during the aftermath and the trial reveal the oppression victims face in even the best-case scenarios. Her story illuminates a culture biased to protect perpetrators, indicts a criminal justice system designed to fail the most vulnerable, and, ultimately, shines with the courage required to move through suffering and live a full and beautiful life.

Know My Name will forever transform the way we think about sexual assault, challenging our beliefs about what is acceptable and speaking truth to the tumultuous reality of healing. It also introduces listeners to an extraordinary writer, one whose words have already changed our world. Entwining pain, resilience, and humour, this memoir will stand as a modern classic.

Wow

As a woman this resonated deeply. I smiled and cried and had to pause numerous times in order to sit with her words and digest them. Brilliant writing and narrating, I wish this could be a compulsory reading in schools so that the consent can be discussed and taught and truly understood.

Everyone should read this. A difficult but important listen to develop understanding and change our culture of victim blaming. Beautifully and honestly written.

Brave, heartbreaking and beautiful

An extremely difficult and gut wrenching read, but a must read for all. This memoir made me experience so many different emotions. The honesty and vulnerability of this memoir stunned me to literal silence at times, not an easy thing to do. Brave, heartbreaking and beautiful all in one.

The most incredible non fiction I've ever read

There are no words to describe how incredible Chanel is, or how bravely and beautifully she has told her story, so that we all know, and will never forget, her name.

An honest, brave and extraordinarily told story

Chanel is so honest, brave and raw in the telling of her story. The book moved me in ways I never thought it would. The way she takes you through her story and the differing points within the incidents and court case is so insightful to a trauma like this.
She is brutally honest which is needed so you can fully comprehend what she went through and the pain endured but not just her but those trying to keep her propped up along the way.
I cannot recommend this book enough!

Couldn't recommend this book enough!

I 100% recommend everyone reads/listens to this book. Chanel Miller is both a great author and narrator, and hearing her recount what she went through as a survivor of a sexual assault and the torment she faced from the justice system is painful but also hugely insightful and inspiring. Whether you're a female or male, whether you've gone through a similar experience or not, I think it's important for everyone to give their time to this book. Bravo Chanel!!

Cannot be put into words

I had already read this; consuming it in one sitting, unable to stop reading. Every word resonates. Hearing it read allowed is so important. The best book I have ever read or listened to. Should be compulsory reading for everyone.
