Rina Kent
About this listen
From the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Rina Kent comes a scorching standalone professor/student dark MM romance set in the Legacy of Gods' world.
My darkness meets a darker soul.
I’m a golden boy.
A genius law student, the heir to the Carson empire, and the dutiful son.
Or, at least, that's what it looks like from the outside.
Deep inside, I have the urge to set the world on fire.
I keep these impulses in check, rarely indulging in mayhem.
Until one night of debauchery backfires, and I'm caught by a villain.
I bury the entire ordeal with the rest of my skeletons.
That is, until that night walks into my classroom in the form of my new professor.
Kayden Lockwood.
A criminal who’s teaching criminal law.
I can't expose what he's done without unmasking my secret life.
What I can do, however, is force him to taste the poison he gave me.
In the clash of titans, Kayden and I break and crumble.
And I'm starting to realize this dangerous game may have no winners.
This is a dark romance with themes that may not be for everyone. Please visit the author's website for content warnings before listening.

firstly, I’d like to say I loved Gareth’s character. I’ve loved him from the snippets we got in other books and for him to get his own book was a godsend. It was nice to finally see his own character, how he is and acts without it being from someone else’s POV. His character was very misunderstood and I liked how he slowly unraveled.
this book is MM and both characters are CRAZY🫣 possibly psychopaths at a push. It was a typical Rina book with 🌶️ scenes and even crazier characters with a lot of 🔪. As usual, make sure to read the trigger warnings before reading this as it does touch on darker subjects and topics. I enjoyed the last 40% of the book a lot more than the beginning and my heart broke for Gareth.
I do however, have a gripe. Kayden felt very 2D. Throughout the whole book he was telling us how crazy and psychotic he is but he was just average? It was all talk and no show 🫠 “he was the craziest” show me. He felt very cardboard and unoriginal and I do wish there was more build up because we have our first 🌶️ scene within 5% of the book and then they were obsessed with eachother. The plot finally got going after around 60% which is quite a long time to get the story but I still enjoyed listening to it. Especially with the full cast as it brought the story to life even more. The narrators were amazing and I loved it.
I do love a Rina book but personally this one wasn’t my fave and didn’t live up to the writing for MM dark romance compared to god of fury (which was amazing). I am excited for all the Easter eggs plotted throughout this book to let us know the next book and what it entails so you know I’ve already preordered it😂🫣
a massive thank you to Rina & her team for sending me an early listeners copy in return for an honest review.

Kayden and Gareth were a perfect match. As messy as they were together, they balanced each other out and matched each other’s energy.
The narration of this was phenomenal. Chef’s kiss, no notes. Stephen Dexter and Grayson Owens were perfectly cast as Kayden and Gareth. Stephen captured Kayden’s controlled menace expertly, while Grayson struck the perfect balance of unhinged and vulnerable as Gareth. That first scene with Gareth’s internal monologue, revealing his deviousness, was deliciously chilling. I also loved Stephen’s portrayal of the older Carson men, which made me even more eager to read Gareth’s dad’s books. This has to be my favourite performance by both narrators. The addition of Corvin King, Samantha Brentmoor, Shane East, Teddy Hamilton, and Viviene Larue as side characters added even more depth to the performance. Plus, Shane and Teddy’s reprisal of their roles as Bran and Nico made me even more excited to listen to God of Fury.
While I enjoyed this book, my one gripe was with the pacing. It wasn’t until about 60 or 70% that we really got into the underlying plot behind the romance. Some of Gareth’s internal monologue and his conversations with Kayden felt repetitive, making the story drag a little. Luckily, the narration more than made up for that to keep me engaged.
Amazing narration, captivating story

That being said, why didn’t you keep Killian’s original narrator Rinaaaaa? Whyyy??? Everyone else had their own narrator, but Killian’s change of voice completely threw me off. It totally messed up his menacing image in my mind! Please don’t do this to us or any other character again!
WHAT HAPPENED TO KILIAN’s VOICE???
