Rosalind James’s books can be a bit hit and miss, but this is definitely one of her best, and probably one of the best romance books I have ever read from any author.

The narrator’s kiwi accents were perfect, so there is a distinct difference between, for example, the accent of a Northland Maori compared to a South Island teenager. Her pronunciation of the Maori phrases was spot on and it was obvious she did a lot of research and preparation to narrate this book.

The storyline is a relatively simple romance, but thrown into the mix is a teenage pregnancy, some family problems, hints of racism, and, of course, rugby. Not sure how Ms James managed it, but she also successfully depicted the stress, tension, excitement and exhilaration of a closely fought rugby match.

I enjoyed this book more than any other I have read in a long time. So much so that at one stage I stopped listening to it, because I just didn’t want it to finish. I only regret is that it is not possible to award six stars

Take the impressive story-telling skills of Rosalind James, add the talented Emma Wilder as narrator. An engaging plot bursting with humour, sweetness, passion and much, much more, along with a rich variety of colourful, three-dimensional characters, so real they draw you right in to the story and hang on to you until the end and beyond. What a heady mix indeed. This book is without doubt my favourite read in a long time, and I believe it’s Ms James’ best work so far. The audiobook elevates it to a whole new level of fabulous.

This series just gets better and better.

Emma Wilder really brought the characters in this book to life. This book really was an escape!
The story itself was really engaging I know anyone listening will fall in love with Marko, Nyree and Ella.
A really great story about the bittersweetness of growing up , making life's hard choices and falling in love.
Plenty of family drama with a few rugby players thrown in . Really really engaging book.

Absolutely loved this story. I think perhaps it's my favourite of the series. Absolutely hysterical wedding scene, funnier to listen to than read, and the Ella and Josie 'interview' and last chapters had me weeping. Definitely be re-listening to this in due course. I like this narrator very much as well.

Marco has got to be one of my favourite characters, such strength, such honour and yet such fantastic conversations with his inner Neanderthal! I have to agree with a previous review the dog wedding was laugh out loud funny in print but is extra funny when narrated. A great read I defy anyone to find something wrong with this book. I’m on to the next in the series now!
