About this listen

Notorious Mafia enforcer and right hand of the Cosa Nostra, Maximo DiMarco has always looked out for me. He’s my protector. My brothers’ best friend. My crush—with the body of a god and the mind of a devil.

And I am just a spoiled Mafia princess. At least that’s who most people think I am. They don’t look at me long enough to see the real me. But he sees....

He is dark and dangerous and lethal, but he’s the only man who makes me feel like I’m alive. It’s a pity he’s too loyal to my brothers to ever act on the sparks that constantly fly between us....

Or is he?

Because when he finally loses control, it’s even more than I ever dreamed it could be. And even though he tells me that the two of us aren’t an option, I see the look in his eyes every time we’re together. He’s only ever a breath away from losing that control again.

But Max is a man with a dark past and secrets that he can’t escape. When that past catches up with us, it threatens what might be our only shot at happiness. Because I would give up everything I’ve ever known for a life with him. And when my brothers find out about us, I just might have to.

This book is a stand-alone brother's-best-friend romance. It features:

  • A jealous, possessive MC
  • Age gap
  • Praise/punishment
  • Pierced MC
  • Inexperienced FMC
  • "Touch her and die" vibes
  • No cheating
  • An HEA

I could not wait to get my hands on the audiobook of Joey.

Joey is book two in the Chicago Ruthless series and my personal favourite.

Joe Arden is incredible as always, but I'd never listened to a Brooke Daniels audio performance before, and she absolutely smashed it.

I would love to listen to more of her work.

Outstanding performances, outstanding story.

I could not get enough of this audiobook.

My favourite book from the series.

I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. I don't know whether my disapointment was because all the hype on Instagram had built up my expectations, or because Dante, the first book of the series, was insane (in a good way), and set the bar too high. It didn't have all the tension and suspense of the first book. I predicted a lot of the plot twists. And the last exciting event in the story was resolved over an hour before the end of the book. And i was thinking "maybe there's another secret waiting to jump out of the bushes, but it never came."

I've listened to this twice. The first time, i didn't appreciate the love story between Joey and Max because there wasn't much build up to it like there was with Kat and Dante in the first book. They've known each other for over a decade, so their emotional connection has been building since before the book started. What we see clearly is the portrayal of their physical connection, which was so hot. On my second listen I could really appreciate how deep their connection is.

There were a few angtsy moments that could have been drawn out more, to build anticipation and help us connect more with the characters. Any conflict between the characters got resolved pretty quickly. The scene where her brothers found about about them was really good, though.

The narrators, Joe Arden and Brooke daniels put in a really good performance, though, especially the spicy bits. Those scences were hot and there were quite a few of them. I loved that this was duet style narration. The only issue i had with the performance is sometimes it was difficult to distinguish between Max and Dante's voices, and ocassionally Lorenzo. The audio definitely elevated the story for me. The narrators did a great job capturing the essence of the main characters and make it an enjoyable listening experience.

I'm excited to read the next book and get to know Lorenzo (the main character of the next book). He's the strong silent type who seems to have hidden depths.

Sizzling mafie romance

LOVE THIS BOOK!! Joe Arden and Brooke Daniels really brought the characters to life and I was so drawn in to Joey and Max’s story.

I’m afraid I could not do with the male narrator - mostly when he was doing the whispering supposedly seductive but actually nauseous. The pretend laugh was so phoney arggggghh!

Good story but,

A great fun read. Max & Joey are perfect together. I like how Joey is a mafia princess but isn't stupid or bratty and Max once he made up his mind nothing was gonna stop him getting his woman. it was good to see the other siblings too. such a treat

liked it a lot

This one hit the spot, Joey and Max create fire together. I enjoy the sub energy from female characters if its done well, but when it's simpering, boarderering on weak willed, its kinda boring. But Joey is a switch, she leans into whatever she wants when she wants, then carries herself with power outside of the bedroom too. She's very young, and that shows in the way she's only just finding her feet in their dangerous world, but I can imagine her character in 10yrs being an absolute frigging powerhouse. As for Max, well, just point me in the right direction to find me a Max, he's divine.

Fire 🥵
