While I applaud the amount of extraneous research done on this book I really wish that I had not bothered to buy or listen to it all. The author's conclusion was not only ludicrous but libellous to a man who not only went through enough pain during his short life but whose family descendents now have to endure this insult. It is not realistic. 1. Mr Merrick has to leave the hospital, his refuge and walk the streets trying to pick up a prostitute. He did not, as far as we are aware have any money to pay for one. 2. Would a prostitute go with a man who was so disfigured and who had to be bathed every day to rid himself of the stench the illness caused? Would a pretty young girl of 25 like Mary Jane Kelly pick up the "Elephant Man". He was well known, he was a pauper what is the incentive? Also despite the lack of light the moon shone brightly on one of those nights and people's eyes get accustomed to dim conditions. Witnesses saw both Liz and Mary Jane with men, not mentioned as wearing a bag over their head. And dont get me started about having an american at times faking a cockney accent so bad it rivalled Dick Van Dyke in Nary Poppins!
