A comprehensive examination of the struggle to reconcile philosophy and Islam.

From the introduction of Greek Philosophy into the Muslim world in the eighth century, right through to modern times, Majid Fakhry charts the evolution and interaction of philosophy, theology, and mysticism in the Islamic context. Highlighting key individuals, movements, concepts, and writings, Fakhry also explores the conflicts and controversies between anti- and pro-philosophical parties that have characterised the development of Islamic thought.

Really good introduction for a beginner.

I really enjoyed this work, though I found getting your head around and remembering all the names difficult in an audio book! I had to Google a lot of them when I got to work just to help the names stick in my head! As an introduction I really enjoyed this and it was helpful in contextualising the interplay between Western and Islamic philosophy too. I'd recommend.
