Critic reviews

"Cherryh combines a flair for hard science with a keen insight into the complex rationales behind human - and nonhuman - actions. Highly recommended for sf collections." ( Library Journal)

Great character development

She makes worlds that hang together so well despite being alien, with characters you can picture and feel

What is alien?

The story delves deeper into the situation on the Atevi home world where humans are a small minority, and the native Atevi species is so alike yet so alien from the human standpoint.

The political situation is starting to really heat up, the human translator at the centre of the story finds himself making a plethora of insights into the Atevi mindset that two hundred years of (very) careful study hasn’t turned up.

Fascinating, dramatic, and fun.

The performance is decent, but doing different voices isn’t a primary talent. And why give Taibini such a villainous voice…?

Easy listening

A good story, made better by the narrator. I found it very easy to listen to and understand, hard to put the story down.
