 A yukata is a type of Japanese clothing that is worn in summer. It is a thin cotton kimono that is relatively easy to wear compared to a regular kimono.

浴衣は和服の一種で、夏に着る薄手の木綿の着物です。着付けの難しい着物よりは、比較的簡単に着ることができます。
浴衣は、もともとは、平安時代の貴族が蒸し風呂に入る時に着用していたものです。
江戸時代に銭湯が普及すると、風呂上がりに着用する庶民が増え、普段着として定着していきました。
60年代後半から70年代初めまでは、浴衣を寝間着として利用していた人も多かったようです。
現在では普段着や寝間着として浴衣を着る人は少なくなりましたが、それでもファッションの一つとして定着しています。
夏の外出着として盆踊りや花火大会などで着る人は多く、温泉旅館やスーパー銭湯などでは、浴衣のレンタルをしているところもあります。©2017 KODANSHA　 English Language Learning
