About this listen

They call Charlie Muffin a traitor. He has been on the run ever since the blow-up in Berlin, when British intelligence declared him obsolete and tried to kill him. Charlie outsmarted them then, and he has done so ever since, staying one step ahead by forgoing any semblance of an even halfway normal life. Now he is alone in Hong Kong and his only protector and friend, Rupert Willoughby, is a hemisphere away. Now Rupert is in trouble. He has invested £6 million in a massive new ocean liner but the ship is destroyed by arsonists, burning completely down in a Hong Kong harbor. The owners blame Chinese agents, but Charlie smells a rat and agrees to investigate. But the conspiracy is more dangerous than anyone knew, and it’s not long before Charlie realizes that his good deed could be his last.

Another enjoyable and complicated romp through pre-computer intrigues. You can envisage the clatter of Telex keys at 30WPM trying to relay back and forth between all The Services enough intelligence to try to identify the unknown agent investigating the burning boat.

Women do not do well with this author or with Charlie the anti hero. VERY ENJOYABLE

A bit off piste, this one. Marginally contrived in comparison to Charlie's previous outings, but nevertheless i am enjoying this series.

Charlie rises to help his friend and in doing so pulls himself from the doldrums he'd been slipping into. Although "rusty" his skills were still good enough for the job in hand.

Every one of this series has been very different and great to listen to . One criticism you don't have the books numbered so you're never sure where you are in Charlie's life.

Good enough tale but ruined by some awful at times narration. Pronunciation of straightforward English words is unbelievable.

love listening to napoleon reading mainly but sometimes I think he gets mixed up with so many characters but still love him reading . The Charlie Muffin series has me hooked. love his character.
