Anna hasn’t set foot in Glasgow for 10 years, for very good reason. When Anna, a criminology lecturer, does return to Glasgow from Rome, during the coldest winter in memory, tragedy strikes. frequent mispronunciation and substitution of words was irritating and spoiled the book for me. Narrator should have pre-read the book.

Plenty of twists and turns. Really kept me wondering who the culprit was. Would definitely read more by this author.

Found the frequent mispronunciation of everyday English language words very distracting and grating. I come from the west of Scotland and the local accent does not result in all these mispronunciations. Does nobody check this before publishing audio books?

I've given it three stars because it really is a pretty good story but I loved it and hated it in equal measures.

The story starts out soundly, with Anna's return to Glasgow for an old friend's birthday party ad everything is fine until she finds a murder victim (he's not quite dead when she finds him but that's irrelevant), it all starts going a bit skewiff after that, Anna is reluctant to share all the information with the police (which as all crime readers know is never going to work out well) she 'forgets' to take her lithium (well that came as surprise, we didn't know she had a condition requiring lithium until now) but that's no problem, she often misses a day or two (my advice would be, never do this again Anna). things start getting really barking mad from here on in, there is one scene in which Anna is exhausted, having fled from one problem after another, almost frozen to death, run some more, almost been knocked down by a car and then, totally out of the blue, she throws herself at the one man she claims would be the last person she'd ever fancy! The reason for this is never explained, presumably it's due to her missing her lithium? Or maybe 'it's her time of the month' ! Given the way this book is written I'd not be surprised if that were the reason.
On the one hand I got the impression that the author hates women but conversely, they seem to have an equally low opinion of men, so I'm a little confused as to the reasonings for this bizarre story, but there is no doubt that it's pretty good, and very well narrated, although if you're not used to Scottish idioms you may struggle, I suggest using google, it's what I do when reading American novels.
To sum up, this is good and bad in equal measure, try it for yourself, I think you'll probably enjoy it, but also want to thump the author a few times during the reading (which makes it all the more entertaining at the end of the day) .

I loved this crime thriller. Fiona mcneill was great she sucked you into the story and kept you on the edge of your seat. With all the twists and turns of the modern day crime story. I hope to listen to more from this author keep up the good work well done

I liked the story very much; good characterisation, good plot, interesting twists. But there were some dreadful manglings of the English language which are nothing to do with Scots dialect, but were simply either mispronounciations of words or sometimes a word that was similar to the required word in sound, but completely wrong in meaning. They made me cringe every time and spoilt my enjoyment of the book. I can't help but wonder where the editors of the original script and the audiobook were? Sad that a potentially very good book was let down this way.

The story is pretty good. The narrator pronounces lots of words incorrectly which is a bit jarring. She is good at accents though.
