He is an Honorary Associate Artist of the Royal Shakespeare Company and has lectured extensively on Shakespeare.

With equal parts humour, poignancy, and intrigue, Michael Pennington brings the reader/listener with him through the story of his life as an actor. Bouncing between past and present, first meetings and final goodbyes, Michael introduces us to the greats that he has been able to work with over the years while simultaneously revealing his thoughts and feelings on all things theatrical. Along the way we hear quotes from everyone from William Shakespeare to Omar Khayyam.
As a budding classical actor myself, I found it a page-turning, inspirational romp into the profession. If I must make a criticism, it's that very little is said on Michael Bogdanov and the English Shakespeare Company. I had hoped to encounter at least a few anecdotes around the Wars of The Roses tours and the excellent company that went with them (Andrew Jarvis, Francesca Ryan, et al) but I suppose that is the subject of the author's other books. Here's hoping we will one day get to hear Michael's excellent narration applied to his and Michael Bogdanov's history of the ESC.
