About this listen

Dr. Perkins presents an image of the crucified Messiah that is riveting. The conflicts with religious leaders, the debates and the miracles of Jesus all lead up to the dramatic moment of the Death of the Messiah. The Gospel asks the question, “Can flawed disciples be examples of faith?” Matthew’s Gospel expands and modifies Mark by emphasizing the role of the crowds, the righteousness of Jesus, and the conflicts amongst the disciples and with other Jews. She demonstrates how Luke draws characters, emphasizes the role of the poor, challenges the wealthy, and pictures salvation.

I know Pheme Perkins to be a respected scholar and looked forward to this audiobook but I couldn’t bear her delivery.
These are lectures, given, presumably, without a Mike, and she’s shouting at the top of her rather grating (American) voice and it&s simply too much for me.
In addition. her style is informal to say the least: aI didn’t buy this to hear about Harry Potter or other films about which I know nothing. This may be fine stuff for a class at school but for a student who already knows a bit about the Bible it’s absolutely deadly, and I dumped it very quickly.
Best read her in print.
