About this listen

Set in 2276, Imperial Earth is the fascinating odyssey of Duncan Makenzie, travelling from Titan, a moon of Saturn, to Earth, as a diplomatic guest of the United States. Duncan’s initial challenge is to prepare for the 500-million-mile trip to Earth. Once there, he is caught up in a sweep of new experiences - including the social whirl of Washington, a strange visit to a carefully preserved ancient city, and a search for the woman he loves.

Where does Imperial Earth rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of the better audio books I have downloaded. The narrator reads it well and does a good job of bringing the story to life

What was one of the most memorable moments of Imperial Earth?

One of the best bits, on hearing it now after 20 years, is the predictions ACC made in technology. The communications gear is a little bizarre but with a very little imagination you can see the world of 21st century smart phones in his visualisation.

Any additional comments?

When this was published I did not rate it as one of his best but listening now ACC shows a depth of imagination that leaves you breathless.

Classic Sci Fi - even predicts the Ipad!

Read or listened to most of ACC’s
This book was a bit disappointing! Big yawn
Surprised I even finished it. Well read by the narrator but my mind was wandering just not exciting or very interesting
I’m sorry wasn’t for me sure it’s a good book I know ACC is a master of science fiction

Love ACC however….

Basically this is my opinion.
Cannot take this book serious, nothing ground-shaking in it.
I do like the composition and the points of view.
A lot of topics presented and it does change your point of view.
It feels very personal and is more focused on the protagonist's experiences rather than on a plot.
I find it hard to describe the feeling it left me any better but it was refreshing and light.
Give it a go dot do not expect anything like 2001 or Rama.

Childishly innocence but pleasant

Well read and thought provoking of worlds yet to ve inhabited always referring back to the 20/21st centuries.

imagination

This book had one interesting idea (how would humans who grew up in space react to earth?) but there is barely a plot and the vibes don't really make up for that. Kind of boring book I only finished because it is not that long - and even then I listened at 1.5x speed

Kind of dull
