Gemma Galgani (Capannori, 12 marzo 1878 - Lucca, 11 aprile 1903) è stata una mistica italiana, legata particolarmente all'ordine dei passionisti. Il suo confessare, padre Germano, le chiese di scrivere su un diario le sue esperienze quotidiane di tipo spirituale. Gemma, vincendo la propria riluttanza, obbedì, e abbiamo qui un breve scritto in cui racconta un paio di mesi della sua vita. Il Confratel Gabriele a cui Gemma si riferisce nel diario, è San Gabriele dell'Addolorata, religioso della Congregazione della Passione di Gesù Cristo. Scomparsa a soli 25 anni, fu canonizzata nel 1940, in virtù di guarigioni miracolose che sono state accertate.
