Il Pastore di Erma godette di un'ampia fortuna tra i cristiani del II secolo, tanto che alcuni Padri della Chiesa lo considerarono Sacra Scrittura.È composto da cinque "Visioni", dodici "Comandamenti" e dieci "Similitudini". Secondo Origene Il Pastore fu composto da quell’Erma che è citato da San paolo nella Lettera ai Romani 16, questo fece sì che Origene tenesse in grande considerazione quest’opera.
