I just can’t get enough of the combination of Hurwitz and Brick. Like fish and chips, some things are made to go together.

This is a textbook Hurwitz/Brick combo. I love both the books and Scott Brick;s voice, so the likelihood was always that this would be a winner for me. I found the plot compelling, the end moving - I absolutely didn;t want the murderer to be the character it turned out to be but the 'means, motive, opportunity' all made perfect sense.
There are reviews bemoaning the detailed description of LA, but as a Brit who has never visited The States, nor is ever likely to, it felt like LA was another of the characters, and one that explained some of the others.
Still think Nate Overbay was his greatest creation, but Gregg Hurwitz had created a star with drew danner.

Really interesting plot that grips you instantly and constantly has you second guessing the conclusion. Unfortunately, the voice of the reader is SO irritating that I was switched off within seconds. I persevered to the end but wish I had simply read the book. I wouldn't buy another audible book read by Scott Brick.

We all know the cards the author of hard boiled detective fiction holds, the flawed P.I., unhelpful cops, the femme fatale, the betrayal, etc, etc, its a question of how well they're played that counts and Hurwitz plays them deftly. Added to that, he's a good writer who creates believable characters and the great performance by Scott Brick, make this the perfect listen for fans of the genre.

This story starts the action in the first sentence, and doesn't stop until the end. definitely an 'edge of the seat thriller.

enjoyed this book similar to Linwood Barclay who is one of my favorites would highly recommend it

a New Favourite author

My first time with this author and he thoroughly entertained me. Even though the main character does some really preposterous things, it's still entertaining. You'll really have to suspend your disbelief at times, but it's fiction, so what the hey. A very good story, a good ending and the narrator was excellent.

I guessed the killer (its not obvious though) but got his motivation wrong.

Ranting about Los Angeles was mostly unintelligible to a Brit and I had to skip a couple of chapters. Hurwitz is usually my favourite but not this book. It was ok I suppose but even Scott Brick seemed to struggle with it and certainly not his best performance either

a decent enough story underneath but too much (in my view) description of things largely irrelevant e.g. long-winded descriptions of L.A. and its inhabitants.
