About this listen
A terrifying ghost story from the Queen of Icelandic crime, Yrsa Sigurdardottir, author of the Thora Gudmundsdottir novels.
The crunching noise had resumed, now accompanied by a disgusting, indefinable smell. It could best be described as a blend of kelp and rotten meat. The voice spoke again, now slightly louder and clearer: Don't go. Don't go yet. I'm not finished.
In an isolated village in the Icelandic Westfjords, three friends set to work renovating a derelict house. But soon they realise they are not alone there - something wants them to leave, and it's making its presence felt. Meanwhile, in a town across the fjord, a young doctor investigating the suicide of an elderly woman discovers that she was obsessed with his vanished son. When the two stories collide, the terrifying truth is uncovered....

Be ready for the edge of your seat!
This story is so well intertwined with a myriad of twists and turns; never a dull moment.
The only criticism I may make would be that it would have been nice for the narration to be in an Icelandic accent.

plot holes
while I enjoyed this as a crime thriller ghost story mix it was a bit slow going and seemed to wrap up very quickly in the last chapter. it was ok, I don't want to ruin it but there were plot holes and things in the book that at the end I just thought, well what was the point in those characters/events. worth a listen but not in my top 10

Great connections
it took.awhile to get going and if I was reading this and not having it on audible I may not have lasted long enough to get to the interesting part. Once it started to get solved it all fell into place and I'm glad I stuck it out.

Really creepy.
Great creepy tale interweaving 2 stories. Lots of twists and turns and some really skin crawling horror.
There is nothing more lovely than the laughter of a child... Unless you are alone in a house...

Disturbing but interesting
I liked this. Not too scary but perplexing. Kept you guessing about all the connections. Wrapped up pretty well at the end but I did have a few questions related to how, what abs why?

Nicely creepy but a little long
An atmospheric setting for one of the main interwoven stories, but I felt the novel as a whole dragged a bit in working up to its climax and resolution.
