About this listen

I have one job in this arranged marriage, and that’s to seduce my husband.

It should be easy; I’m the heiress to a transatlantic fortune, bred and raised to make a good match. I’ve spent a lifetime building up my endurance, my discipline, my dedication to my god and my church. The danger lies in falling for the devil who put his ring on my finger—a mistake I made years ago, and can’t afford to make again.

There is one more danger: Tristan Thomas, former soldier and my new husband’s bodyguard. A hero who stole my heart with salt-soaked kisses on the sea.

But Lyonesse is not like other places, and this isn’t like other marriages. Soon Tristan, Mark, and I are tangled in a knot of vicious jealousy and gorgeous wickedness, where suspicion is an aphrodisiac, and secrets and vows are one and the same.

And there is something far darker at play than my real purpose, darker even than the twisted longings of my own heart. Because my husband has secrets of his own, and the reason he’ll stop at nothing to possess me could slice my soul deeper than the honeysuckle-hilted knife he gave me once upon a time.

Because when it comes to Mark Trevena and his games, the first cut is more than the deepest—it’s the sweetest. And he always leaves you begging for more…

It was great

The narrators were fantastic, and they both did an excellent job with the other character voices. I look forward to the last book immensely

Much anticipated addition to the series

I enjoyed this second, and eagerly anticipated instalment of Lyonesse series. Beautifully written, with gorgeous prose weaved in with the sexy scenes and an interesting plot - all expected from Sierra Simone who never disappoints.

Being a lover of old legends and ancient times, these gorgeous reimaginings from Sierra Simone are balm to the heart of a reader, who has gone off historic romance, only to fall in love with the contemporary twists on ancient tales. Fantastic creativity that keeps the reader fully immersed in the reading experience.

Also, for someone who rarely enjoys the usual MF romances these days, this was actually good. Not as good as the first book where we just have the deliciousness-ness of Mark and Tristan, but intriguing to follow Tristan, Mark and Isolde who by now have an interesting dynamic. I enjoyed learning more about them as individual characters, as well as them together. I will admit, I was at times conflicted - there were a few of eye rolling moments, where I thought scenes were just a little forced, less thought through than we normally get from Sierra Simone. And I won’t lie - just a little too much internal dialogue from Isolde that got increasingly annoying halfway through. And I wasn’t as impressed with Mark as I expected to be. Just something didn’t quite click. Maybe because it’s just difficult to relate to another powerful Dom because we are still in the same universe where Ash Colchester exists. But. Even having said all of this, Honey Cut was still a great and engaging read. Just nearly as gasp inducing as Salt Kiss was.

In terms of narration, the only slight criticism, and this is personal taste only, while I really enjoyed the introduction of Isabelle Ruther and her portrayal of Isolde’s POV, I just couldn’t get past her narration of male characters, Mark especially. And that is down to personal taste, and because I fell in love with Oscar Reyes narration of Tristan and Mark so much, I just couldn’t get into Isabelle’s version. So much so that for the first time I was compelled to alternate between written and narrated versions: coming back to Oscar on audio and skipping to written word when it came to Isabelle. Again, go reiterate, this is personal preference only and absolutely nothing against the beautiful voice and performance of Isabelle Ruther.

And my god, Oscar Reyes… [sighs] absolute perfection. His voice? The narration? It’s a performance of the best kind. I listen to his voice and Sierra Simone’s writing is lifted ten fold. It’s as if it’s a partnership made in heaven. It’s when an audio performer and a brilliant writer’s coming together is so well aligned, it takes the literary experience we get from books in 3D, into a theatrical, almost ethereal space of 5D where you are left floating in perfection. Yes - that’s Oscar Reyes and Sierra Simone together.

Congratulations to both - long may your partnership continue. And - if I had a way, I’d have all of Sierra’s books renarrated by Oscar. A girl can dream :)
