About this listen

You watch her. You want to be just like her. But do you really know her?

Rani's life is far from idyllic—with two small children and a partner in a tiny rented flat that has never felt like home, she has always wished for a different life.

Then, Natalie moves into the large house across the road—and Rani can't help but be drawn to her. To her life of luxury, to her perfect husband, her perfect house.

But not all is as it seems behind closed doors, and as Rani gets closer to Natalie, she discovers everyone has secrets—and some will stay with you for a lifetime . . .

A darkly compelling, emotive debut about two women who find themselves sucked into each other's worlds—with devastating consequences. Perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty and Sally Hepworth.

Beautiful story about friendship and the complexities of life behind what we show people. Gripping plot, couldn’t put it down and painted a lovely picture of London. Narration was ideal and suited the characters really well.

So good!

I liked the pace of this story, I found the characters interesting. Easy read. I enjoyed the way the story was put together.

Great read, I was particularly interested in the characters

This is one of those books you hold your breath and cross your fingers when you pick it out to listen to.
The first part isn't significant, so I struggled to stay with it, but it's a grower! I loved how the story came to life, how you learned more about Natalie and Charles, and how their 'perfect marriage' works.
I confess to getting lost in the plot with the book exploring betrayal and lies between the various characters. The book's middle part is well-written, but the ending is dreadful. Keeping it more straightforward would have worked far better.

Plus the narration is annoying.

Not for me, sorry.

Such a shame.

I inhaled this over the weekend. I found excuses to do things that gave me extra time to listen to it. Loved the setting, the crisp writing, the themes woven carefully in and the layers to the characters. A thriller with depth and twists to keep you hooked.

Deliciously brilliant

So much more than a thriller. Relatable themes, a nail-bitingly tense plot and a cracking finale! The actors were so impressive!

What a story!

Having got to the end and thinking "I didn't see THAT coming", there is all the ingredients for a reasonable psychological drama/ film

Good film material

I listened to the first couple of hours of this book but could listen no more. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen!
It was quite confusing when it kept jumping from one scenario to another. It didn't run smoothly at all and was very frustrating. None of the characters were particularly interesting so I really couldn't give a stuff about them anyway!!
The voice of Natalie (which I assume is Polly Edsell) was extremely annoying.... very plum in the mouth posh. Every word was spoken in an exaggerated way... very clipped, really got on my nerves.
I returned this book unfinished and got my credit back

GOING NOWHERE!!
